"Mentally ill" isn't a diagnosis either. It's a catch-all term and sets off this whole unresolvable issue again and again. We either have to stop using those terms, which means we can't shake our heads and have shorthand for "I know what he does makes me really uneasy because it's not the way a person I can trust to behave in ways that I can predict and understand acts but I don't have a term for it" or we have to have a tacit agreement that we no longer use generic terms for people who have actual diagnoses so there's no confusion and harm by association.

Aug 2016

Symptoms:

Having an exaggerated sense of self-importance
Expecting to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it
Exaggerating your achievements and talents
Being preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate
Believing that you are superior and can only be understood by or associate with equally special people
Requiring constant admiration
Having a sense of entitlement
Expecting special favors and unquestioning compliance with your expectations
Taking advantage of others to get what you want
Having an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others
Being envious of others and believing others envy you
Behaving in an arrogant or haughty manner

Remind you of anyone?
(Note: I am not a psychiatrist and thus am not qualified to diagnose anyone. But this seems so close to describing Trump!)
