The scene: a living room in Georgia.
The plot: a viewer of the Olympic Games named Kari Kelly saw something unusual during the Germany Canada field hockey match in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Something that prompted her to take her smartphone, snap a picture and tweet it to the world.
This is that picture:

(46,179 posts)It looks like, reading through this thread, you have recognized a pattern here at DU and are questioning it.
Yes, it is normal for DUers to fling shit at political opponents that may have connotations of bigotry or hate attached. At DU, as long as it's flung at a Republican, it's fair game. Most don't seem to "get" the connection between their own impulse and the bigotry they criticize in others, or the hypocrisy in engaging in behavior that offends them in others.
At the same time, the random pairing of words that create unintended phrases is funny. The screen shot is funny, as are the others further down in the post. It's funny because it's unexpected and unplanned.

(1,565 posts)I don't however find demeaning words and slurs known to be used against marginalized and oppressed people funny when directed at anyone as an insult, regardless of whether or not I agree with the person they are directed at or not.
Directing such demeaning words and slurs at someone that you disagree with is no better than directing them at the group they are intended to insult.
I find bigotry and hypocrisy ugly and unacceptable regardless of who it is directed toward and do not hesitate to point it out when it is blatant and very obvious.

Hence, two people can laugh at precisely the same thing; yet while one laugh is wholly inappropriate, the other laugh is not?
