3. The topic is not helpful to us

Regardless of the dubious validity of the statement, its defense will open up a discussion on ISIS which is not helpful. It is and issue that Trump can say he was not around for and only allows the rehashing of why they are still a factor. An issue best left to die out and focus more on issues where Trump can be dragged into (or caused).

Once its out there, its solid in their minds. Our litigation of it only makes them firmer. This is a topic that only highlights the fact ISIS is an issue that has not yet been resolved and Trump is not in the conversation.

I truly fear his words will trigger something calamitous.

Maybe there is no reliable stance to take. I'm hoping that by answering the charge, those who are teetering in their support of Trump will finally be convinced to walk away.

8. Silence gives his lunatics imagnary fodder to believe the ridiculous and slanderous charge, IMHO

He has poisoned the discourse to the point of triggering a flash fire from someone whose compromised mental state makes them susceptible to picking up on not so imaginary suggestions.
