Arianna Huffington tweets she’s leaving the Huffington Post

New York Daily News

The Huffington Post is losing Arianna Huffington.

The media mogul announced her departure from her namesake digital news outlet in a series of Tweets on Thursday morning.

“I thought HuffPost would be my last act. But I’ve decided to step down as HuffPost’s editor-in-chief to run my new venture, Thrive Global,” Huffington posted. “To everyone at HuffPost: it’s you who make HuffPost what it is. I’m filled with gratitude to all the colleagues and friends I’ve made here.”

Huffington, 66, cofounded the news aggregating site 11 years ago with Kenneth Lerer, Andrew Breitbart and Jonah Peretti as an alternative to the more conservative Drudge Report. AOL acquired it for $315 million in 2011, and The Huffington Post became the first digital media enterprise to win a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting in 2012.
