(18,361 posts)This district is close to home. And well worth a donation.

Came within 5.7 points of Issa in the primary!
He is a really good egg!

(1,357 posts)And it would be great if Raw Story put a photo of Doug on their page instead of that 'viper', Issa.
Here's a link to Doug's page. Pretty impressive!

(7,402 posts)Slimeballs everywhere flinch at such an allegory. In fact, many slimeballs are quite useful.
Call him an 'Issa'. Doesn't get any lower than that.

(5,902 posts)And a slimeball.
I lived in Orange County the year Grand Theft Issa was elected. He was actually a nearly-unknown underdog in the 2000 GOP primary for the open seat, which everyone from the OC Register to your average Limbaugh-listening, anchor baby-bemoaning church lady assumed would go to State Senator Bill Morrow.
Just before the primary though, Darrell Issa placards began appearing in all the major South Orange County thoroughfares - with the picture of a square-jawed All-American type with a Cheshire Cat grin.
It was a photo of another man.
This may seem like a trivial detail; but remember that this is South Orange County, where the Aryan aesthetic is still the currency of the realm among the typical Republican in the area (Joseph Mengele is said by some researchers to have lived and practiced in Laguna Beach sometime in the '60s).
Had voters realized at the time that the enterprising Mr. Issa is of Lebanese heritage, he would have probably lost. The rest, as you know, is history.

At all.

(8,419 posts)North County SD, South County OC, end everything inland.
The three biggest cities in OC now have Dem advantage in registrations. Last one to fall was Irvine, heavy Asian/India influence. The OC was close in 2008 and 2012 elections. The Donald may flip Orange County to Blue!

(2,574 posts)And I've used Issa as the perfect example. He's running by a clear, blunt outspoken liberal with military credentials, which blunts Issa's Camp Pendleton base; Issa really could be defeated this time in our district, which becomes younger, more hispanic, more educated with each 2 year election.
Instead of being an election about Trump vs Clinton, this is THE opportunity to define and take down the Republicans all the way down the ballot.. Trump is not different from what Republicans have said and stand for for decades now, , he's just their loudest
and clearest messenger this century.

(8,419 posts)CA is actually fairly drawn. Nice to see a good candidate get the second spot who is a Dem, and with Trump maybe the seat can be switched.
