Gymnastics is something I actually do like to watch during the Olympics (sort of), as opposed to swimming races or soccer. But I do agree its a very sadistic thing for young girls and women to subject themselves to, that must consign them to lives filled with pain and deformity. I'm a bit horrified at the strange, overbuilt backs and shoulders these American girls (they are mostly girls, not women) seem to have, as opposed to the gymnasts from other nations--physiques that can only be the result, I should think, of some kind of twisted training (or drugs, don't know which).

But the heartstring-pulling bios and overwrought descriptions of the sacrifices of training: yeah, I was sorry to laugh at all that, though I felt a tiny bit ashamed.
