No, not Trump.
The Filipino diving team.
They are trying, but not doing well at all.

(15,805 posts)I hear the heartbreaking stories about the hardships of these young athletes. They try to train on their own or with local school coaches, and sometimes they can't even afford shoes, but they still try. I doubt those young boys in the Filipino diving team had the world class pool and a top notch coach to train for the Olympics, so maybe they aren't perfect, but they still had the dignity and character to put themselves out there and try. They deserve nothing less than everyone's respect and admiration for their effort.

(46,340 posts)But it is funny in a way.
Look how we laughed when the Jamaican bobsled team tried.
They even made a comedy movie about them.
Eddie The Eagle (remember him?) has a comedy movie about him.
Remember "The Agony Of Defeat?"

(24,372 posts)Actually, no they don't. I'm a 57 year old pot bellied truck driver who was a swim team member in my teens and even I can do that badly.
You either bring your A game to a big swim meet or you stay the fuck home.
Edited because I noticed the posts below)

I edited in the word "not" to clarify the oddly worded sentence.

then clearly diving is not their event.
Of course people should compete even if they may not win, HOWEVER, If it was the case when I was young and on that swim team, that every time I dove in the pool I sank like a stone, or the best I could do was dog paddle, I think I would have realized I was in the wrong discipline. There is simply no way in the world those guys could possibly think they were entering the water properly.
I'll give you this much though; Everyone screws up once in a while. Perhaps they had perfect dives the rest of the day.
Still doesn't make that video any less funny.

(15,805 posts)If you teach that 'win or don't come home' philosophy to children, they'll turn out to be contentious, old pot bellied truck drivers.
