USA/Muslim Fencer: "I don’t have another home to go to. My family was born here. I was born here."

Muslim Fencer On Team USA Takes Down Trump

Whether she wins a medal in Rio or not, Muhammad has already made quite an impact. Ever since making the Olympic team, Muhammad has been using her platform to advocate for the acceptance of Muslims in America, something that is particularly crucial considering the GOP nominee for president has called for a blanket ban on Muslims entering the country.

When asked about Donald Trump in a recent CNN interview, Muhammad did not shy away from addressing his divisive rhetoric.

“I think his words are very dangerous,” she said. “When these types of comments are made, no one thinks about how they really affect people. I’m African-American. I don’t have another home to go to. My family was born here. I was born here. I’ve grown up in Jersey. All my family’s from Jersey. It’s like, well, where do we go?”

I'll bet money that her family has been here way, way longer than Trump's. NBachers Aug 2016 #1

It may be random or based on skin color. I know I'd like to be sent to Denmark or Australia or someplace high on the happiness index and full of liberals but they'll probably send me somewhere browner where I don't have any heritage.

I was born and raised in America and both my parents are US citizens. Many people still insist on knowing "no, where are you really from?"

At least non-whites like me have the sense to ask "Where is your family from" because we know that Americans are diverse.

It can be an educational experience. I recently met a black Muslim and I correctly placed her name as Nigerian, but she's from Chicago south side. She was descended from slaves and her family changed their names.

But yes Trump and his supporters are promoting very dangerous ideas about making people think that some Americans are "more American" than others. No matter what nonsense they spew, it is all about dividing us by skin color, or religion, or even just the nonsensical association with stuff like that. It was born out of the last 8 years of calling Barack Hussein Obama a Muslim Socialist from Kenya who just doesn't have the same American heritage as the rest of America. They created a hate virus that has been incubating over many years and has now bubbled to the surface.

Trumpers think that since Trump says what he thinks without a filter, then it's OK for them to do so too. They can say racist things while defying political correctness just to spite those soft liberals.
