Bought it new (I was 24 and stupid). Within the first year the alternator and timing belt died, and it developed a serious engine knock at higher (>40) speeds. Was delighted to trade it in for a used Datsun 2 years later.

... I could make a tidy sum on a road trip by saying, "two bucks says we'll see a Chevy Chevette on the side of the highway." I rarely lost if they were dumb enough to take it.

The worst thing about it was the insanely complex Rube Goldberg smog control system. It had so many wires and vacuum hoses under the hood that it looked like somebody had dumped a plate full of black spaghetti on the engine.

I drove that car all over the Western U.S.A. and Baja California.

At times I lived in it too.

Replaced the timing belt four times over about 90,000 miles. Serious issues with brakes and with an automatic transmission it was grossly underpowered.
