Not cryptic at all: Snowden just soliciting people for his biography
Edward Snowden is soliciting people who know him to help tell his story. In a Wednesday tweet, the former NSA contractor on the lam directed followers who had a relationship with him to contact author Barton Gellman for a book.
Did you work with me? Have we talked since 2013? Please recontact me securely, or talk to @bartongellman. It's time, he wrote.
Gellman, currently a senior fellow at The Century Foundation, was a key figure in The Washington Posts Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of Snowden-leaked documents in 2013. In a message, complete with cryptographic signature so security-conscious Snowden contacts will know it is real, Gellman explained the project.
The message reads, in part: I'm writing a book for Penguin Press called DARK MIRROR:Edward Snowden and the American Surveillance State. I want to hear from anyone who has first-hand information on either. It need not be some deep dark secret. Gellman went on to explain he is looking for people who can describe what Snowden as a person in any phase of Snowdens adult life before he leaked his cache of documents. He also asked to talk to people who staffed the surveillance programs Snowden revealed.
