Missouri Governor Jay Nixon called on to be a public defender
Nixon repeatedly reduced the budget for state public defenders and has caused it to drop to 49th in the country. A little known law in Missouri allows the Director of the Public Defender System to designate any lawyer as a defender if the system has insufficient funds to hire someone to fill the roll. He has just designated the governor, a lawyer, to be a public defender in a case.
