(A mindmeld of party insiders and operatives, campaign sources and students of Donald Trump.)
--Why he will: Its been four consecutive days of utterly disastrous press. Theres staff turnover in key swing states and reports of dissension at the highest ranks of the campaign. Prominent Republicans are announcing theyll vote for Hillary, the battleground map is shrinking rapidly, hes being badly outspent over the airwaves and theres talk of a situation so dire that an intervention from some of the GOPs top figures is in the works.
If Trumps trajectory doesnt change dramatically -- and quickly -- the race is cooked. And once he concludes the election is unwinnable, why would he stay in? He has no allegiance to the GOP and wont lose any sleep over what happens down-ballot. Keep in mind: He didnt become a billionaire by throwing good money after bad.
The only question, then, is how to get out and save face. Hes already laid down a foundation for his exit -- hes now asserting the race is already rigged for Hillary Clinton. The next step? Throwing Reince Priebus under the bus and claiming that BOTH major parties are conspiring to keep him from winning. The exit scenario isnt that far-fetched. Lots of folks, in fact, are already thinking it. Heres the top trending question on Google yesterday: Is Trump dropping out of the elections?
--Why he wont: Trump knows this better than anyone: The news cycle is so incredibly sped-up that any one of his scandals can fade to background noise with a savvy media play. For example: We all spent yesterday talking about his non-endorsement of Paul Ryan and John McCain, not his continuing war with the Khan family.

(12,180 posts)...walking shitstain has irrevocably damaged his brand and is facing a black hole void when he loses the election in a landslide for the ages. No bank will extend credit to him and his only source of financing will be with Russian oligarchs and the vig on those loans will be epic. His so-called empire will collapse and he'll be forced to move into a small, two bedroom apartment.
No, Cheeto small fuckstick knows that he needs to exit now and riding the crazy train and forcing Rinse Penis to fire him is the only way to save face.

(10,437 posts)do we go down with a mad man at the helm? Or do we go down replacing him and alienating a large block of GOP voters?
its a real problem as both scenarios lead to bad ending in November. The must process longterm effects....based on GOP DONORS and BIG MONEY people.....which move helps/huts with the money people.
another one, which move between jettisoning a deranged candidate and replacing (most likely with Paul Ryan) achieves better longterm goals with the overall american electorate? If the gOP is willing to jetison a portion of their crazy base in hopes that in doing so those voters can be replaced with more moderate minded....it could be a long range goal.
The gop has a choice now....either way they are toast in nonmember but what works long range?
