Even if Trump were to quit early enough for GOP to get a replacement the hope is that he will have fatally wounded that pick. Voters must remember the GOP allowed him to get nominated.

(9,269 posts)They like him because he's "not a regular politician" and have no particular loyalty to the GOP. Anything can happen but I think this is a win/win for us: Trump goes down in flames himself, or the party replaces him and they lose all the folks that love Trump and don't care about the party.

(6,858 posts)He'll probably take his 18+ million voters, and try to form some sort of partial third party, betting that since they voted for him in the primary, they wouldn't suddenly find the GOP lovable, otherwise they would have chosen one of the other candidates in the first place.
That would just siphon votes away from the replacement GOP candidate and still help Hillary win.
Something like Hillary 45%, GOP 30%, Drumpf 15%, Johnson 8%, Stein 2%

(45,012 posts)They'd have to throw all the money they've got in the air to even begin to catch up. I don't think the big donors in their party like that much risk and would rather just sit it out. Thing is there's no self-awareness in the GOP. The don't realize that THEY are the monster. They've fostered a base of dimwits, racists and conspiracy nuts. We'll see them again in 4 years spouting the same crap.
