GOP Senator: It Has Been 'Proven Scientifically' That Globe Is Not Warming

ByTIERNEY SNEED

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) compared those mounting the efforts to address climate change to Joseph Stalin and Hugo Chavez, while claiming that it has been "proven scientifically" that the climate is not in fact warming. He suggested in a radio appearance that progressives' concern about climate change was driven by their desire for government control of Americans lives.

"The whole climate change debate gives, and there are all kinds of quotes from adherents of and promoters of climate change, the reason they're doing it is it's such a great opportunity to control, you know, pretty much, government, and control your lives," Johnson said Monday, on the Glenn Klein Show on the WRJN radio show. "There's an arrogance of power there that they're utopians, that they really think they can create heaven on earth, and where it's failed in the past, those people like Stalin and Chavez and the Castros, the nutcases in North Korea--by the way, if you want equal results, go to North Korea, you have equal misery."

Johnson also suggested that the shift in use of the term climate change over global warming was because the climate was not actually getting warmer

"First of all, the climate hasn't warmed in quite a few years. I mean, that is proven scientifically. So, that's why they've changed the terminology from global warming to climate change--that covers everything," Johnson said.

They all believe global warming is real, and they are not coerced into saying otherwise.

The oil companies know it, and believe it. They might even be worried about the impact and the eventual business damage.

The problem isn't Exxon, or any other oil company. It's idiot politicians that are pandering to the knuckledraggers.

maybe one or two "experts" don't agree or aren't sure when almost everybody else is. But, hey, let's give THEM veto power over actually doing anything.

Their own research in the late 70s and throughout the 80s proved climate change was real, but they buried the reports and started hiring "scientists" to say it wasn't.

When they were finally caught they reversed course and started allowing their own scientists to freely speak.

The belief is that they did this to avoid government investigation, sanctions and fines.

O2 has molecular weight of 32 and CO2 has a molecular weigh of 44. CO2 has > mass the O2 ….. CO2 can hold more heat then O2 ….. the science on this shit is done.

If I put solar panels on my roof and generate electricity for myself and my neighbors whenever the sun is shining, how is that tyranny? If I move to a city where I don't need to own an automobile, how is that tyranny? If I decide to become a vegetarian to reduce my environmental footprint, how is that tyranny? If I replace incandescent bulbs with efficient LED bulbs, how is that tyranny?

The county I live in banned those flimsy plastic bags many retailers gave away free because these bags are a nuisance as litter and harmful to ocean life. Now we have to bring our own reusable bags, or buy biodegradable paper bags for ten cents. Some retailers are happy to sell reusable bags for 99 cents, some retailers give away reusable bags with any purchase, and some give away boxes that they would otherwise crush for recycling. Is reducing litter and protecting ocean life tyranny?

I know what tyranny is -- it's the government telling me I can't marry the partner of my choice, it's fundamentalist Christianity infiltrating public schools, it's gerrymandering and suppressing votes and election fraud, it's cops quick to shoot people who are not white or people who are mentally ill, it's prison for non-violent offenders, it's prisons that violate basic human rights, it's prisons that are disproportionately not white... and so on.

It's the right wing republicans who promote authoritarianism and tyranny. It's the republicans who deny science, from climate change to evolution to sex education.

I think that what bugs them- and a lot of Americans- is the idea that they might *gasp* be forced by government to have change some of their habits/lifestyle to make the planet............well.....habitable for the foreseeable future.
