I admit I was wrong about Trump -- I expected him to move to the political center by now.

I grew up in the NYC area in the 1980s and Trump was an asshat back then. He was often in the news for some insane thing long before The Apprentice. Even then I thought he was about to crash, burn, and perish, but he somehow always pulled up on the stick, became sane enough to work out solutions, and lived another day to be an asshat.

When I worried about HRC competing against Trump it was my expectation that he would move the the center faster than HRC and siphon enough votes of those disenchanted with HRC, or Clintons in general, to win the GE.

There is no evidence at all that this is happening and it appears he may be filling his airplane with nitroglycerin to enhance the burning after the impending crash (to keep with the metaphor). It could still happen, but I think he is creating so many problems for himself that he won't be able to recover.

A political scientist I am not.

Your only probable error was underestimating Trump's collection of neuroses.

I had thought he probably would. Strategically it makes sense. Turn the stupid to 11 to get the nom and then moderate public statements to sucker in the more centerish and even left-of-center Hillary Haters. He's obviously just as stupid as I feared.
