Usually the presidential candidate helps down ballot contenders. This cycle, its seems, many, particularly on the GOPee side, have tried to pretend Trump doesn't exist. For his part, Trump is constantly fucking with those who he thinks fucked with him.
The Democrats are more connected up and down the ballot, I think.
But, overall, is this a cycle where the presidential race is becoming less and less connected to House and Senate races?
I'm really not sure what to make of it this year.

(58,785 posts)advertising for state races that very carefully never mentions Trump. The Republican Party and the dark-money forces behind it are putting everything into saving control of both the house and senate and also control of state legislatures, governorships, judgeships.
Lawrence O'Donnell pointed out that the party leadership cannot renounce Trump because they cannot keep even the house without Trump voters, so they sometimes speak up for whatever he's busy trashing but without ever saying anything against him.
