Friday night sunset sail out of Little River SC. The Captain and I had a sit down as we left the dock. Last year was the first time my daughter had ever been sailing so we chartered the boat again. $100 per person for 3 hours - yes, a 3 hour tour.
The captain and I were sitting in a shaded area and he says:
"You're from Richmond. So, how's this Tim?"
I chuckle and say, "He's as advertised. He and his wife have spent their lives helping people. Rock steady, decent, he's real. Actually real. He'd be a great hand." <-- on edit added the hand part.
"I get that", said the Captain
I tell him about how my wife and I have met him over the years and our involvement in his campaigns.
The Captain, "there's a lot I don't agree with in this but...."
Me: "the alternative?"
Captain: " Yeah, that's not ... real"
Back at the helm he started this into the conversation. One of our shipmates (2 couples from North Carolina) boldly stated how he didn't want Hillary to win. It was our turn to speak and my wife changed the subject. We spent the next 3 hours just talking about stuff, nothing political. Our fellow travelers got to know people who they knew were from the other side and we found a lot of common ground. Just normal stuff.
One at a time. Personal. The Captain is a retired retail exec (he knows selling) who deals with a lot of people on vacation. The seed grows.
We have 100 days.

Trump went over the edge the last couple of days with some of the people I know.
