I had to throw that quote in because it is one of my two* favorite quotes related to football. Attributed to golfer Sam Snead, he was asked about a bad round of golf and he said he looked "like monkey f-ing a football out there".
The real reason Trump is upset about going against the NFL head-to-head (he ruined the USFL doing the exact same thing when he was an owner BTW) is that guys are his audience. Ignorant knuckle dragging racist guys.
September 26th
Presidential debate at Wright State in Dayton Ohio
NFL - Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints. Monday night game
This is week 3 of the NFL schedule. At this point fans are into their season and fantasy football leagues. We have to remember that the big draw of Monday night games are that they are the only game on AND gamblers are trying to recoup losses from the day before.
Neither of these fan bases should be a concern to Trump. If Georgia is a concern he's done anyway.
October 9th
Presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri
NFL - NY Giants at Green Bay Packers. Sunday night game.
Week 5 of the NFL schedule. This will probably be Tom Brady's return to action after his suspension - that will dominate the sports press. This should be a concern to Trump. He makes mouth words about winning Wisconsin and it will be in contention. Also both these teams have HOOOG fan bases across the country.
October 19th
Presidential debate at UNLV in Las Vegas NV
NFL - no game scheduled

* the other quote , which I learned in the Army, is used when someone says they can't find something "Well... If it was up your butt kicking footballs you'd know where it was".

(14,537 posts)scheduling of debates works in Trump's favor.
Like you said, a lot of men watch the games. Those men will watch the game and listen to news reports about the debate. Sure they will cover his insults, then have people on to justify them and translate that no he doesn't really believe Clinton was behind xyz, but this topic needs to be discussed. The media will ignore that he was literally picking boogers from his nose and flinging them at Clinton.
The media will cover that as Clinton not being able to stand still and has a tick in her shoulder. Is it a sign of a neurological problem?

(182,866 posts)The news can't report the whole story and many will ignore the news stories as being biased against Trump. It's sort of like Rove moving attention away from W's first debate with Ann Richards by creating a ridiculous eavesdropping story.
