"No further comment." In the ABC interview that Josh Marshall linked at Talking Points Memo, Mr. Khan was upset about Trump's crass comments, most probably because some were aimed at Mrs. Khan and he seems very protective of her. Trump is a nasty sick bully and the Khans would be better off not responding to him and opening themselves up from attacks on the Internet from Trump's creepy minions.
I feel such deep empathy for this family. I know that all decent people do too. But not Trump. It is always all about him. I have to say that hearing Trump's response to this family made me so depressed, depressed that there are so many people who cheer him and support him. I never realized that there were so many hateful people.
My mom told me that after Kent State, one of the mothers of the slain students showed, in an interview, a stack of hate mail she got telling her that it was good her daughter was dead. What would make someone do that?

(1,325 posts)However, his supporters will try to make the Khans suffer. Just like Alex Jones and his Sandy Hook truthers, the hate mail and emails and internet rants about their son and the whole family will be despicable. And sadly, there will be death threats, many more than we'll ever know.

(89,262 posts)it's not worth it to get into it with Trump . but they could shame the overall party for staying quiet.

Republicans tend to be more authoritarian than Democrats. Many of them are also downright MEAN. (Overall, the internet has become a haven for their anonymous vitriol.)
My brother saw a group of Republicans from Indiana on the news who were shouting, "My country, right or wrong!" during the Vietnam conflict. They were essentially stating how they'd support the conflict even if it was immoral.
I also think the Khans should be careful.
