(45,452 posts)America overall is 62% white.
non-whites just crossed 50% of infants and are above 50% of public school students and will be above 50% of all children in 3 years.
America is much more diverse than people think and that will be reflected in the election results.

(58,785 posts)are close to a third black, and Hispanics are just part of the crowd in Florida and the southwest, but that picture probably does look strange to Vermonters.
Interestingly, there has been a "return" to the south of children and grandchildren of those who refugeed north looking for opportunity. Southern heritage is not all all about whites.

so that's probably why there are more black interns than the 12-13% AA national population.

(28,979 posts)It's the foundation that the scaffolding on that dome stands on! I like the symbolism in that photo. Thanks Skinner!

(90,347 posts)Now that is really a beautiful picture! I see America in this picture - many shades of brown and black, white, and everything in between, just like America. Certainly is a BIG contrast to the lily-white pic with Ryan! One question - it looks like there is a filter or light spot in the pic, just to the right of the middle of the pic. See the young lady in the red dress and white jacket in the front? Go above her head about 5 rows back.... there are a bunch of guys and they look faded out! I'm not seeing things, am I???

(13,305 posts)People saying the Dem photograph isn't representative either must live in some very white parts of the country. I mean I'm as white as white can get personally, and I'm from a middle to upper middle class section of Northern NJ. When I go to my kids school for any event, that Dem picture looks like what I see in the crowds of parents and students. And actually our town is not just a mix of white or black or latino, it's even highly mixed within families. Just among my daughters immediate group of 5 or so friends are kids who are African-American and Asian, Pakistani and Italian, Mexican and Greek.
And all of that makes me very happy.
