Yes, we protested the illicit war and called them war criminals.
But, it was because of what they DID. Lying us into war.
But, so many Goppers just seem to have an irrational hatred for Hillary that goes well past politics or policy positions. I have family members that are normally quite calm that go into a cursing red faced tirade just at the sight or mention of Hillarys name.
It goes beyond sexism.
I think a lot of the Obama hatred was just pure internalized racism.
But, with Hillary, it is as if they take everything in their lives they don't like and project it onto her.

(72,790 posts)I really, really, really did not like them.
I disike Hillary, but she is nowhere near Bush-Cheney level as far as dislike.
I hope Hillary defeats Trump, even though I dislike Hillary. She's a better choice.

(60,335 posts)The republicans have hate in their heart. They have had that hate for Obama for 8 years based on deep rooted racism in this country and they know of no other way after the hate filled propaganda provided by the republican leaders.
It just breads more hate and it consumes people.

(62,530 posts)tRump is just a sideshow barker who doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning.
tRump doesn't have the influence, as much as he would love to have it, that the established evil bastards monkey pants* and crash cart held.
if tRump does win, it will because of the awesome power of stupidity, not by fixing votes or having the supreme court violate constitutional law.
and if he wins because of that, then we get the government we deserve than the government we want.

(52,247 posts)i know a lot of people who "can't explain" why they have a very negative, instinctive reaction to hillary even though they know they can't point to anything in particular that she's done that bothers them.
it's not sexism, to their mind, because they don't have that reaction to a number of other women.
at this point, it's hard to disentangle the sexism and the smear campaign. i get it, anyone who hasn't been paying attention can't help but be affected by all the smears.

(24,764 posts)We hated what Bush and Cheney did to us. That hate Clinton for whom she is.
In other words, rational, fact-based outrage vs. irrational hatred with no basis in truth.

(7,947 posts)Not after and what his administration did, because that's not really a fair comparison. Was Bush hated/disliked/whatever before he got into office? Probably. You could say well Cheney did this and that with H.W., so we hate him for that. Well, I doubt Cheney wasn't hated before that by people on the other side of the political spectrum.
It's always easy to look at the other side as being irrational in their hatred of the other side, because the other side does it too. Each side always has the moral high ground according to each side, and of course my side can't be irrational, because I'm on my side, and I can't be irrational, and would never choose to be on the irrational side.
It's politics. Everyone hates everyone, for things done, things being done, and things that might be done.

(19,840 posts)For them it's like rival teams. Cubs vs Cardinals, Bears vs Packers. Us vs The Other. And a little Ahab vs The White Whale.
What they know about Hillary is: she wins. I think Bill once explained it that way but I can't find the quote right now. She wins elections, she wins on policy disputes, and she continually slips through their clutches when they target her with investigations.
And when that happens:

(6,092 posts)BUT, the difference is that Democratic politicians never were allowed to berate them in public and or they chose not to. Didn't want to upset those wealthy doners or the press who would call them on it and let the right then set the narrative.

(14,104 posts)I have never understood the level of vitriol against her...what the hell did she ever do to them? It goes back to when she was First Lady, which was pretty innocuous, yet they foam at the mouth.

(35,317 posts)Something about a health-care task force that (R) didn't like.
They didn't like the recommendations.
They didn't like how it was run.
They didn't like that HRC was in charge of it because it was her baby.
Or that the first lady had occupied not a position of public service per se but seemed to head an official government task force. She wasn't elected to do that. She wasn't hired. Vetted. But ultimately, (Wiki tells me upon checking) was deemed a government employee because she acted like and filled the role of one, but wanted to be deemed a private citizen. Why? Because were she a government employee her records as chair of the task force and indeed the task force's records would be subject to public scrutiny, and she didn't want that. This fight for confidentiality was finally resolved by the courts.
They also didn't like Bill Clinton, so some of that got transferred to her. Nor were they fond of HRC's response to his indiscretions. The general attitude that I observed was that being married to the president gave her power and prestige, and that he could not just be fellated but screw whatever he wanted to as long as she got power and prestige. "Stand by your man" is okay for prestige, but otherwise "Be a strong, independent woman". Like it or not, that was part of the thinking and still is for some (R). (Yeah, you could point out that many of those judging would be all "forgiveness is a virtue" if the circumstances were reversed. Both sides like taking long soaks in the pool of hypocrisy when it comes to pointing out the flaws in others.)

(4,150 posts)Maybe even more, as they STOLE an election and got away with it with the fucking media's complicity.

(260 posts)though I will admit that my level of disgust was not this high this early. It took a stolen election quickly followed by 9/11 and it's aftermath for me to really be moved to despise them - and I still do.
