POLAND BECOMES 14TH EUROPEAN NATION TO OFFICIALLY BAN GMOS

Continuing a trend of GMO bans sweeping across Europe, the nation of Poland has officially announced its decision to join 13 other nations so far in excluding Monsanto’s controversial crops from its nation’s farmland.

The announcement came via Informacyjna Agencja Radiowa (IAR) – a press agency working with Polskie Radio in Poland, according to this article published by Radio Poland.

Poland will now “opt out” of growing GMOs, with a specific focus on Monsanto’s genetically modified maize, which many countries fear will contaminate its natural crops if allowed to grow within their borders.

Opposition to genetically engineered foods has been strong in Europe for decades and has resulted in mass protests including widespread participation in previous incarnations of the March Against Monsanto movement.

if you're the type of person who finds scientific evidence compelling.

When Roundup is sprayed on human cells in a petri dish, the results are not good, and wouldn't be for other herbicides, but that is not how we interact with Roundup. The live-animal tests were very positive, and Roundup may even be one of the safer herbicides.

World Health Organization - glyphosate a possible carcinogen

plus:
http://www.gmwatch.org/index.php/bills-test/15059-glyphosate-is-toxic-to-dairy-cows

In the present study, thirty dairy cows from each of eight Danish dairy farms were investigated for excretion of glyphosate in urine. Blood serum parameters indicative of cytotoxicity as alkaline phosphatase (AP), glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH), glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), creatinine kinase CK), nephrotoxicity, (urea,
creatine), cholesterol and the trace elements as manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), selenium (Se), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) were investigated. All cows excreted glyphosate in their urine but in varying concentrations. Increased levels of GLDH, GOT and CK in cows from all farms demonstrate a possible effect of glyphosate on liver and muscle cells. High urea levels in some farms could be due to nephrotoxicity of glyphosate. Also the unexpected very low levels of Mn and Co were observed in all animals which could be explained due to a STRONG MINERAL CHELATING effect of glyphosate. In contrast the mean levels of Cu, Zn and Se were within the normal reference range. In conclusion, this study gives the first documentation to which extent Danish dairy cattle are exposed to Glyphosate and its impact on blood parameters.

Deformities, sickness & livestock deaths: the real cost of glyphosate & GM animal feed?

Much of our meat and dairy produce is made from animals raised on GM feeds. Alarming new claims suggest that the GM diet is affecting animal health - prompting fears over human safety. Andrew Wasley reports ...

At first glance the frozen bundles could be mistaken for conventional joints of meat. But as Ib Pedersen, a Danish pig farmer, lifts them carefully out of the freezer it becomes apparent they are in fact whole piglets - some horribly deformed, with growths or other abnormalities, others stunted.

DDT had some problems, though some were overblown, but the biggest issue with it is that it persists in the environment for years, something glyphosate doesn't. Glyphosate is safer than most herbicides on the market.

This is inflammatory bullshit, straight out of "organic" fairyland.

Even if it IS true, (the story that is,) it's still based on nutsoid anti-science bullshit.

That's what the "organic" scammers are counting on, suckers who reject science so they can continue to sell their overpriced bullshit.

I said it before, and I'll happily say it again, "organic" is a scam.

Altered Genes, Twisted Truth: How the Venture to Genetically Engineer Our Food Has Subverted Science, Corrupted Government, and Systematically Deceived the Public

“Altered Genes, Twisted Truth will stand as a landmark. It should be required reading in every university biology course.”--Joseph Cummins, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Genetics, Western University, London, Ontario (link)

Think you're not eating GMO's?

Growing Doubt: a Scientist’s Experience of GMOs

August 31, 2015, Jonathan R. Latham, PhD

By training, I am a plant biologist. In the early 1990s I was busy making genetically modified plants (often called GMOs for Genetically Modified Organisms) as part of the research that led to my PhD. Into these plants we were putting DNA from various foreign organisms, such as viruses and bacteria.

I was not, at the outset, concerned about the possible effects of GM plants on human health or the environment. One reason for this lack of concern was that I was still a very young scientist, feeling my way in the complex world of biology and of scientific research. Another reason was that we hardly imagined that GMOs like ours would be grown or eaten. So far as I was concerned, all GMOs were for research purposes only....read more

I checked it out at Amazon and for the most part it got excellent reviews. There are a handful of troll comments, however, that are rather amusing.

"A lawyer is writing a book on GMOs. And next I will go to a lawyer when I have cancer. Utter garbage and conspiracy theories and profoundly anti-science. And this anti Science garbage is a best seller pretty much shows the critical thinking level of humans on a polarizing topic. This book is good to be my toilet paper."
