I think this paragraph will answer your question.... I think the Republican Party has latched on to this idea...

"The receptivity of the great masses is very limited,
their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous.
In consequence of these facts,
all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.
As soon as you sacrifice this slogan and try to be many-sided,
the effect will piddle away,
for the crowd can neither digest nor retain the material offered." ("Adolf Hitler: quote on propaganda&quot

He's a conservative talk show guy so it's no surprise that he's pro-Republican, but throughout the primary season he's been on fairly consistently and generally speaking he's been pretty anti-Trump.

Tonight though it appears that that was all more or less an act - he sure seems like he's gotten into MSNBC in a trojan horse and is taking every opportunity to cheer on his team now that we've reached the convention. Rachael seemed a bit taken aback by some of his comments about Christie.

My guess is he won't be a particularly welcome guest anymore.

Pence would never be able to whip up a mob like Christie. And face it, mobs are what get Trump's juices flowing.
