(45,020 posts)The apologists and whitewashers are an even bigger boon to comedy

(135,425 posts)I'm also surprised the cartoonists didn't use "I have a dream..." along with the other famous quotes.
There's a twitter hashtag about #MelaniaTrumpSpeechQuotes making the rounds and some of the contributions are hilarious.

(3,284 posts)She supports a lying racist monster; I have as much sympathy for her as I do for the complacent wives of Nazis.
Not to mention, how she acted with regard to the journalist Julia Ioffe was disturbing. She took no responsibility for the ensuing harassment of Ioffe from anti-semitic internet trolls.
That's not exactly the behavior of an innocent victim. I'd have a lot more respect for her if she divorced his ass.

(135,425 posts)Rudy "Shrieking" Giuliani won't get the full measure of mocking it deserves.
I really do hope some of the comedy shows highlight (read: imitate) his head exploding performance--he looked like he was ready to bust a blood vessel!
As a fellow member of the Three Wives Club, I guess he just had to show up and support his buddy The Donald! Whadda schmuck!

(135,425 posts)he landed Donna Hanover who had 2 kids with that creep, and then married the latest one (after he carried on a long affair with her under his 2nd wife's nose).
Real family values!

Their son, Andrew, has vowed to never speak to Rudy ever again.

How lovely that Andrew is giving him the cold shoulder. Throwing him some of that Al Gore schadenfreude!

(111,339 posts)plagiarizing from Democrats for someone they consider a brainless little piece of fluff to recite, knowing she'll be blamed if anyone catches on.
Alas, they also know that no one who supports her husband has the brain capacity to catch on or realize why it's wrong if someone tells them about it. What this says about his bargain basement campaign staff is enormous, but that seems to be getting lost in the shuffle.

(14,779 posts)"Ask NOT what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country". Oliver Wendell Holmes said that in a 1927 speech and he stole it from an Egyptian who said it in the late 1800s... Yet no one accused JFK of plagiarism.
The last President to give a speech NOT written by someone else, was Truman and the reason for that is he had a problem reading speeches thus spoke "off the cuff". Good writers tend to be good readers and will use what they have read, thus you see a lot of plagiarism in speeches.
Sometimes the original is cited, other times it is not. In the 1990s a Democratic Candidate was accused of plagiarism for he used a phase first used by a British Labour Politician. The Democrat was caught for he liked the phase and used it several times, most of the times CITING THE LABOUR POLITICIAN as the author. The Accusation of plagiarism occurred when is a speech he failed to cite his source and his opponents KNEW it had been made by someone else for they had read the Democrat's earlier speeches when he had cited the source.
Sorry, I can NOT make a big deal of plagiarism in a speech, if the phase is GOOD, it will be used over and over again and when someone else steals it it is more a complement to the original author of the phase then an insult to whoever spoke those words.
