Ok, I don't have cable so I don't get to see much of Trump in extended interviews.. this is just unbelievable.
First off, he is a liar and completely full of shit. And he is not really very good at it either, when called on his bullshit he just starts rambling more incoherent bullshit
And he is so completely full of himself it's to a level that it just stinks up the entire room.
Also, watch how he literally will not let Pence speak for himself. At one point Trump is talking to Stahl like Pence is not even there.
This is unbelievable that anyone with an IQ above room temperature would support Trump

(206,016 posts)The other day, I suddenly had an epiphany about him. He doesn't care what he says, doesn't hesitate to be outrageous, whatever it takes, since he's hopelessly addicted to having everyone listening to him 24/7.

(8,982 posts)He is beyond reproach
Remember his meeting a week or so ago with Senate and House Republicans
That is why pretty much every major Republican is going to be a no show at their parties national convention.
It looks like pretty much a full across the board... ok fine, fuck you, if you will not listen to anyone then go right ahead and do the convention by yourself
This is going to be a great week!

(9,426 posts)Unfortunately, there will be people shot, maybe killed. All because a LUNATIC wants the spotlight all to himself. Ugly man, ugly words, ugly ideas. Tragic for this country. How "smart" must his children be, letting him show the world his madness? he needs intensive therapy. My heat goes out to the unlucky police officers who have to protect this clown. He is Dubya, on steroids.

(15,373 posts)why he received as many delegates as he did was because the GOP has many winner-take-all primaries rather than proportional allocation of delegates as is done by the Dems. Otherwise, some of the others, e.g., Cruz and Rubio, would have been a bit closer delegate-wise.
Still, Trump did get the largest number of popular votes of ALL GOP candidates.
One wonders how those who voted for Trump are able to function at all in real life.
Bernardo de La Paz
(49,040 posts)They will say he got more votes in the primary than any other Republican candidate ever, but that was because Republican primary turnout was so yuge this year.

(25,980 posts)Disclaimer: the following statements are strictly conjecture on my part; I have no documentation of their validity.
Those who take the time and effort to learn everything possible about the political system (like most people who frequent DU) comprise a small percentage of the population. Everyone has priorities, and for the vast majority, taking the extra steps to discern the truth is pretty far down on their list of priorities. I try not to judge harshly, criticising their indifference or lack of intellectual curiosity, for example, but it still seeps into my everyday interactions with people. Instead, I am more inclined to lay blame at the feet of the media.
I grew up with images the Vietnam war spilling into my living room every evening; I fully expected to get dragged into that quagmire as soon as I came of age. Instinctively I knew that the truth lay beyond the carefully edited sound bites accompanying those images, so I made it my business to seek the truth. Few of my peers seemed concerned, so mine was a solo mission.
For whatever personal reasons, many people seem to believe that the political process is inconsequential to their lives, passively accepting the predigested pabulum presented by the corporate-owned media - hence the ascendancy of tRump. I blame the media, but that doesn't diminish my desire to shake some people until their teeth rattle in order to get their attention.

That was the focus of the interview? Someone should help tRump choose a less garish spray tan. Also, how about including his eye area in the tanning? He looks like the clown that he is.

A million times better than say Wolfe or Chuck Todd
Pence sounded like a robot. "He is good. He will make a great president."

(2,651 posts)My aching back! Is this the best you could come up with? Admittedly the rest of the candidates were worse, but holy crap! Donald the daffy Drumpf? Seriously?!
I struggled through the interview. Poor Lesley. She tried, but was overshadowed by Daffy Drumpf. The King of Incoherence would not even let his so-called running mate even get a word in edgewise. Drumpf dominated with his lies and inconsistencies throughout the......ahem, interview.

(22,048 posts)If there are debates (such as they are), Donald Trump doesn't stand a chance. Secretary Clinton will slice and dice him.
First, the presidential debates will not be anything like the Republican primary debates. It will be just the two of them. She won't let him get away with his schoolyard bullying behavior. Strangely, I don't think even the moderators will allow it.
Second, Mr. Trump won't be able to talk over his opponent as he repeatedly did in those juvenile free-for-alls we saw over the last year. The contrast between a cool professional in charge of the facts and knowledge of the world will be highlighted by the idiocy and stupidity of the blowhard.
Third, the responses will be hyper-anaylized and any inconsistencies, lies or mis-statements will be pointed out repeatedly; even if one thinks Mrs. Clinton has trouble with the truth, (I don't), Mr. Trump's nonsense will be spotlighted and his lack of knowledge will be laid bare.
Fourth, has Elizabeth Warren been named as Mrs. Clinton's running mate? (wink)
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)Warren is, in my mind, the best pick against Pence.
PJMcK
(22,048 posts)Secretary Clinton will probably name her running mate in the next few days, don't you think, joshcryer?
Actually, of all the names floating around, any one of them will be a formidable opponent for Governor Pence. He's such an ignorant lightweight that I don't think we'll have to worry about the strength of our Democratic nominee, whoever that turns out to be.
Without a doubt, it'll be must-watch TV.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)We got a few days, possibly after the RNC convention. I'm hoping for Warren. Pence is a lowlife, not concerned about Clinton's VP pick. But Warren. Oh my god. Let it happen. Perfect combination.
PJMcK
(22,048 posts)Governor Pence has been a terrible governor in Indiana, (I know, you don't believe it!). He faced an almost certain loss in his reelection. By giving up that fool's errand and running as Mr. Trump's VP, he's extended his potential future in politics. When he and Mr. Trump lose in November, Governor Pence will be remembered as the "principled team player" who stood up when called and fought the good fight for Republican values. (Can't believe I just typed that!)
From that political perspective, he's made a very savvy move. On the other hand, look how that worked out for Dan Quayle, Sarah Palin or, for that matter, John Edwards.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)But I can't say I disagree! Pence calculated that if he didn't stand up, as you suggest, he'd become a nobody. By doing this he extends his leadership in the party.
Because, really, who even heard of Pence before this? Anyone outside of Indiana? I didn't know of him at all.

(45,251 posts)Then again, maybe not.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)At least as it relates to the banks and TARP (remember, she oversaw TARP). She calls for breaking them up but few realize that it would make the banks more profitable (by her own argument). But you take that as an insult. It's not. Political demagoguery has its place. And Warren going up against Pence would be absolutely brilliant.
merrily
(45,251 posts)Sorry, for a time, you were quite critical of her every time you posted about her and your posts could not have been taken any other way.
I am not as big a fan of Warren's as some other DUers are or as some former DUers were. I am just not a "fan" type. But she is my Senator and I did notice.
BTW, "criticism" and "insult" do not have the same connotation for me, especially when a comment is substantive and the object is a politician and highly unlikely to know what it being said. For example, I think you criticized her, but Scott Brown insulted her.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)So my criticism was always well meaning. Her work on TARP was quite disappointing when she had $20 million to play with and could've done a lot of feather ruffling, which she didn't do. The final TARP report under her lead was rather mediocre at best.
merrily
(45,251 posts)of a politician and an insult, such as Scott Brown insulting her looks. Whether I agree or disagree with substantive criticism of a pol, I think people are entitled to it.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)I mean, I like Warren as VP because she's a firebrand, because she can be a demagogue (in the form of populism). I think Pence in particular would have a very hard time going up against that because we see he struggles greatly with Trump's own demagoguery / populism.
It's just confusing you'd take my past criticism of Warren as some kind of line where I'd never cross in to supporting her for such a high position.
merrily
(45,251 posts)This was the entirety of my Reply 35.
35. After all your criticisms of Warren in the last couple of years, this is surprising.
Then again, maybe not.

(22,048 posts)The low-information and ignorant voters in our country are the uncertainty factor that will influence the election.
My hope is that sometime between now and November 8th, Donald Trump will say or do something so over-the-top and he'll be called out on it that it will be the moment when suddenly, even the uneducated voters will see what a jackass Mr. Trump is.
I'm not holding my breath. It's just a wish. In the end, we'll need to win at the ballot box.

That is classic NPD behavior. The GOP has selected a presidential candidate who is emotionally and mentally unstable. I know what is wrong with Trump; what the HELL is wrong with his supporters?

(10,952 posts)I think that Leslie Stahl was looking at Trump like he was a buffoon. It wasn't until I saw the clip that Stephen Colbert showed tonight that I realied that she actually roller her eyes at one point. She looked like she was really trying not to laugh at him. I thought that was so funny.
