Key quote:
_ _ _ _ _
Spike Lee: I can't say to all the people that are unhappy with him that they're racist people. People ain't got jobs, people are hurting. So I don't care what color you are, if people are out of work, it's tough. And then when you're the first African American president, that's not helping either. I just had a meeting with somebody high up in the Obama campaign this morning and the people have to get out and vote. This thing is not a lock. It is not a lock that president Obama is getting a second term and people have to really rekindle the enthusiasm that we had the first time.
GQ: When do you see Barack pulling away if he wins?
Spike Lee: Once we get to the debates my man is going to tear him up! It's going to be obvious who should lead this country for the next four years once they go head to head, toe to toe, elbow to elbow, butt to butt. And I don't think Mr. Romney can hang with him. He just can't!
GQ: What do you think Romney's appeal is to people?
Spike Lee: He's not Obama (laughs).

(15,189 posts)Were ALL won by Gore, but the media spin was there. Yes Al Gored sighed just like I did. It was probably disbelief he had to debate this moron. Al was frustrated by the stupid. And the media just laughed it off. "Misunderestimate" Isn't that cute, he coins his own words. Obama could eat Rmoney alive, but just wait till the spin. And that possible ear piece Bush was wearing in 04 didn't get an investigation either.

(3,626 posts)1. times were good, and folks were willing to take a chance on a rookie (Bush). Romney won't benefit from that.
2. Bush was viewed as a good guy, but not very bright, and Gore was viewed as being clearly much smarter, so Bush's bar was set very low. Romney isn't going to benefit nearly as much from that.
This will be more like McCain/Obama. Obama won, the media tried a little spin but the insta-polling killed that pretty quickly. I think we will see something similar this time around so long as Obama brings his A game. But if he's off, then Romney is just good enough to have his A game beat Obama's B game.

(27,617 posts)expectation game.
Romney has had a lot of practice in debates this year while POTUS hasn't had any in almost 4 years.
It sounds like people are already setting unachievable expectations for Obama. That's not going to help.
