I wish I were there now to watch history being made. I've always felt very safe in Turkey.

Yes, it is a coup and they will be glad to see Erdogan gone. My neighbors see him as an ISIS supporter, albeit under the radar. They say he has dismantled some democratic institutions. But mostly they think if he were to stay in power, Turkey would be like Iran within 5 to 10 years.

More later if I hear more.

I have friends and colleagues in Turkey. They despise Erdogan. Don't want to email them in case it leads to complications for them.

They are in a far out suburb of Istanbul and know no more about what is going on than we do here.

What the do say, however, is they would like Erdogan gone. They don't know who is leading the coup. They see Erdogan as a secret ISIS supporter.
