Guam Governor Calvo 'Incensed' With Feds for Visa Denials

Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo is weighing in on the 99.9 percent denial of H2B visas that has forced the Guam Regional Medical City to shut down some of services, including the pediatric ward and the cath lab.

Just a year ago the US CIS was approving H2B visas at a 90 percent rate.

Read the statement from the governor's office below:

Governor Calvo is incensed with the federal government upon hearing of GRMC’s decision to suspend certain services.

“U.S. CIS denied visa renewals to about 50 nurses. Our sister hospital had to shutter some heart and stroke services in the cardiac catheterization laboratory because of this,” Governor Calvo said. GRMC also has temporarily shutdown the Pediatrics Department because of a lack of nurses.

“As much as we’re pushing for GMH right now, we need GRMC to succeed as well. Our people need to have more medical services. This is just another example of the pain caused by these policy decisions made thousands of miles away by people who know nothing about us, none of whom we had the right to elect.”
