Women, music banned from Saudi talent show

A city in Saudi Arabia has created its own version of the "Arabs Got Talent" television reality show, but music and women are banned from taking part.

The contest is being held in Buraydah, known as a centre for Wahhabism, a strict interpretation of Islam, AFP reported, citing the Al-Hayat daily newspaper.

Competitors will only be permitted to perform religious chants, recite poems and engage in sports events, it said. snip

Music, singing and dancing are banned, despite being staples in "Britain's Got Talent" and similar talent competitions that have become a global viewing phenomenon with national versions televised in 32 countries.

I can imagine they are in for a riveting five seconds of television entertainment.

Sounds action packed - I don't think I would be able to sit still in my seat.

Sounds like those fellas love themselves a good old-fashion' sausagefest. The lack of music will undoubtedly add amazing appeal to this event.

Given that they cannot legally drive in Saudi Arabia, it's a guaranteed hot hit. Lots of mayhem. Especially when the winner gets her just deserve. They stone her to death.

Trouble is, yes, it's a hell of an act, but what do you do for an encore?
