The guy has done more to revitalize the party, refocus what a progressive is, and clarify the differences between us and them.

(111,332 posts)for using your voters to leverage some real progressive change in the party.
Thank you for not giving up as you faced hostile Hillary people who called you all sorts of things, starting with "sore loser."
Thank you for hanging in there to try to make a difference for us.
And finally, thank you for endorsing Clinton once some of your ideas were adopted.
and maybe REALLY adopted! Fingers crossed for that!

(40,416 posts)The two of them came together in an absolutely awesome show of unity. There was so much divisive rhetoric here on DU, from both sides. But some of us realized that this will pass. Bernie will not run as an independent, and Hillary is not evil incarnate.
Today is proof of many of our faith in the democratic process (both small-d and big-D).
Watch both speeches! They are an incredible statement of unity within the party. And let nobody ever again say that a congressman and senator who has universally caucused with his Democratic Party colleagues, is not at heart a Democrat, no matter what he calls himself.
This is a great day.
And watch both of their speeches. It will restore your faith. In both of these incredible people.

(19,326 posts)..from top to bottom, holding true to his genuinely progressive positions. It has
dramatically moved our nation's and our Party's entire political conversation and
consciousness towards unapologetically reclaiming our Party's FDR/JFK roots.
No small feat. Congratulations Bernie on a job well done.

(335 posts)In several ways:
- It's the most amazing underdog story I've seen in presidential politics, in how far he came, with how little, breaking record in fundraisers and outraising the big money donations with small donations, with the media blackout and lack of name recognition.
- He has done more to sell the idea of "Democratic Socialism" than anyone in history outside of FDR - further removing the public's hate of the label in place ever since FDR, starting with Truman.
- He has run the most progressive agenda of any major Democratic presidential candidate in history.
- As far as I know he has run the most civil campaign in presidential history, with positive ads, avoiding some of the effective but less principled issues he could have used.
- His fundraising is historic in attacking the common wisdom about big money in politics basically everyone else has embraced.

(335 posts)They are who they are, and there is a partnership of convenience for the election, but they are largely at odds on many policies.
I think it's more likely there will be areas of mutual benefit to ally and areas they will fight, without any close alliance.
For a taste of what I'm saying:
Note that Hillary's appointees to the platform committee killed the position of opposition to the TPP despite Hillary saying she is strongly against it.

(1,820 posts)Bernie wants to help stop Trump that is what most want!
He had a conference call with his delegates last night. He has not suspended his campaign and wants all his 1900 delegates at the convention. He will still give his floor speech, stay tuned, this may yet get interesting!

(11,175 posts)All the Democratic debates, including the participation of Lincoln Chafee, Martin O'Malley, and Jim Webb, were models of civility and thoughtful discourse compared to the clown show across the aisle.
I know that Webb has made noises about maybe voting for Trump, but even Webb was a more qualified candidate than any of the 17 Republicans.

(335 posts)They got no support - showing just how historic Bernie's support was in comparison - but I liked them both.
I agree Jim Webb is better than any of the Republicans, but that's not much praise and I can't give him a lot.

that progress is worth fighting for. When we settle for what's handed to us, we become weaker. When we fight together to oppose a regressive status quo, we become stronger.

(12,265 posts)As difficult as this primary season was, I think it is time to admit that having a two person race made our nominee a stronger candidate and strengthened the platform.
I am and have always been a Hillary supporter but I have said often here and elsewhere I would have voted for Bernie if he had been the nominee.
A lot of good came out of this awful time, lots of young people have discovered the importance of the election process and may run for office. New blood, even when you don't agree with them, is always a good thing.
Glad to have Bernie in the fold helping beat Trump, a guy who scares the hell out of me.
Thanks Bernie.

(36,502 posts)If they would actually back labor, they don't need big corporate money to win elections. Bernie came from a small state & was relatively unknown a little over a year ago & now anyone who's paid attention to this election knows who he is & what he stands for. The huge crowds were a surprise to me & I think even more so to dem leadership & the media. And to any Bernie supporters who are going to vote for Trump? Well, they didn't really understand Bernie at all, then.

(5 posts)For the first time since I worked on behalf of JFK in that long ago presidential election, In Bernie I had a candidate I really and whole heartedly supported. He was the best candidate and not just another lesser of two evils. He gave and still gives me hope that we have a future and it will be better. To my mind, he is the most important public figure of the last 40 years and the first one I feel is totally real and totally honest.

(12,471 posts)The work is not over. The revolution has been reignited with your candidacy, and you have invigorated a new generation of folks to see to it that this country does not go down the path it has been going on for the past 30 or so years. We needed this kick in the ass.
Of course you know that this work is NEVER done, but some day, with the help of people from the past, whose shoulders we stand on, we shall win the war against WE THE PEOPLE, the 99%
