Longtime political activist Jim Goodnow has died.

Jim was a great guy. This is very very sad. Some here may remember his bus which was a fixture at anti-war events for years.

JIM GOODNOW OF TERLINGUA DIES IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT

By John Waters, Publisher

Longtime part-time Terlingua resident Jim Goodnow, 74, died last night in a single motor vehicle accident.

Goodnow was a longtime political activist who began his activism in 1973 when he parked a truck in front of the White House in Washington D.C. with a large sign that read, “Impeach Nixon.” Goodnow’s expression of his First Amendment rights and his disdain for the President and the Watergate scandal was picked up by the Washington Post and other media outlets.

Though he served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam War, he was active in anti-war demonstrations and in veterans issues. Goodnow was a member in the local chapter of Veterans for Peace.

While touring the East Coast in early 2008 in his bus called “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” the bus caught fire and was completely demolished by the conflagration.

In early 2010, Goodnow, who had been a lifeguard on Miami Beach in the late 1950s, raised money to bring medical supplies, including an ambulance, to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. (It is unknown if the Quixotic Goodnow ever delivered the supplies to Haiti.)

My husband gave him money to fix his bus after the radiator developed problems. He was a weird dude, but devoted to cause of peace. RIP Jim.

... Around 10:45 p.m., Goodnow was driving a 1993 Mitsubishi Diamante north on Texas State Highway 118, 24 miles outside of Alpine, when his vehicle drifted to the right and he overcorrected, a DPS spokeswoman said. The vehicle then went into a side skid and rolled over an undetermined amount of times, ejecting Goodnow, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, the spokeswoman said ... http://www.oaoa.com/news/spokeswoman-88807-vehicle-county.html
