Missing boys' bicycles found near Neda mine in Dodge Co.DODGE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Three teenage boys are missing from Dodge County, the sheriff's office tells 27 News. The sheriff tells WTMJ radio deputies are searching the Iron Ridge Mines in the Neda Mine District Monday morning. The mine they are searching is abandoned. It's north of the Village or Iron Ridge. According to an incident log released by the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, the three boys were reported missing Sunday just before 10:00 p.m. after leaving on their bikes earlier in the day.
UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Dodge County Sheriff's Office has released more information in the search for three missing teenagers near Iron Ridge. Tate Rose and Zachary Heron, both 16 and Samuel Lein, 15 were reported missing at 9:45 p.m. Sunday. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the teens were last seen in the early evening and their parents had looked for the three themselves first. When they couldn't find them, they called authorities.
As of 9:30 a.m., the Dodge Co. Sheriff's Office and the Iron Ridge Fire Department has requested assistance from the Madison and Milwaukee Heavy Rescue teams to search the mines. The boys' bicycles were found along a road between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. near the Neda Mine. That mine was donated to the University of Milwaukee. Gretchen Meyer with the university says Neda Mine is closed to the public and all entrances are gated and locked. "I guess it's possible the kids could have gotten into the mines. Because the entrances are gated and locked, the kids could have found an entrance we don't know of. The university was able to provide to the police department a map of tunnels to the mine." Meyer says there are about four miles of tunnels. They've opened the gates today to law enforcement and fire department crews so they can search the caves and mine areas.
Sheriff Schmidt says they're not sure the boys are in the mine, but they want to cover all bases. They're searching all areas near where their bikes were found. "They could be at someone's residence for all we know."
UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says someone discovered the bicycles of three teenage boys near the Neda Mine.
The sheriff's office says that mine is not open to the public, but the DNR does offer tours sometimes as it's known to be inhabited by bats. Tate Rose, 16, Zachary Heron, 16 and Samuel Lein, 15, are all still missing and dozens of agencies are searching for them Monday morning.

UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Dodge County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to stay clear of the area where they're searching for three missing teenagers.
That's in the area of Neda Road and Ore Road in the Town of Hubbard in Dodge County. There is an ongoing search operation in conjunction with the Iron Ridge Fire Department. The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says the area is heavily wooded and there are old mine tunnels as well, making the search area difficult to traverse.
16-year-old Tate Rose, 16-year-old Zachary Heron, and 15-year-old Samuel Lein are all three missing.
They're asking media with helicopters to stay clear as the noise can make communications on the ground difficult. WKOW 27 does not have a news helicopter. They're also asking the public to stay clear to make the search efforts more effective.

Rescuers led by a state Department of Natural Resources specialist who was familiar with the mine finally discovered a footprint early Monday afternoon and heard the boys yelling for help.
The searchers helped them out of the mine and reunited them with their parents. The boys weren't hurt aside from scratches, Schmidt said.
"It was a very sad situation that turned into a very joyous one," Schmidt said.
