The woman in the image above, which was taken by Reuters photographer Jonathan Bachman, was among those arrested for refusing to leave an area highway. Emblematic of Tiananmen Squares infamous and unknown Tank Man, neither Reuters or the Associated Press were able to identify the woman, who was later detained.

(63,224 posts)Was a flood of assholes racing to explain to us how this picture is "nothing like the tank man" of Tiananmen Square for various bullshit reasons.
Ultimately, their objections can be boiled down to two:
1. She's a woman
2. She's black
Amazing picture. And the positions of the riot troops almost suggest that they're being blown back by the force of her will.

The two cops look off balance while the woman is sure of foot and resolved and calm. The wind blowing her dress captures the moment beautifully, adding motion to what is a static moment.
Surely this image deserves a Pulitzer. It is of the quality that is rarely captured.
It is being justly celebrated.
