Advice on GPS devices?

My wife is looking into getting a GPS for hiking and more. I am looking at a Garmin Montana which seems rather pricey. Less costly models do not have the camera, expansion features, or durability.
Size of screen matters to a degree as well.

I've had a few, and the Nuvi is affordable and easy to use. There are very few bells and whistles that don't get me to where I'm going, it just offers just good directions on an easy to view screen. If it breaks, I will buy another:

I see lifetime updates are included now. That's good, because they can be expensive.
