Carmelo Anthony Makes Public Stance Against Police Brutality

Carmelo Anthony has joined the small ranks of sports stars to speak out against the heinous acts of police brutality that have occurred within the last week — followed by an act of terror against police in Dallas, Texas.

Whereas many athletes have been slow to speak, Carmelo is calling on his fellow sportsmen to stand up and rise together to use their recognition and influence to denounce what’s happening and work toward solutions. He shared a photo of Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown and Lew Alcindor seated together the Ali Summit 45 years ago along with the following statement to his Instagram account on Friday:

I wasn't a huge fan (ex-Knicks fan, currently looking for a team until Dolan sells), but this makes me want to take another look at him. I know he's got talent. And now I know that he has depth and class.

Thank you, Carmelo Anthony! I have no idea who you are, but you just turned me into a fan. Thank you for speaking up, and being a true leader!

didn't know he had it in him...he's always had a talent, but always seemed to me like more of an egotist too...

But he is right...if more pro athletes would use their influence and money to for good, that would be wonderful...

We can't get through to the "decision makers" but i bet they would take Steph Curry's call

Specifically, what legislation would he have them enact. No answer? That is exactly the problem.

We are all pissed off but cannot think of anything positive to do that will make it better. Laws ain't likely to make things better. Money? To be used to do what?

My point is that we need change but until we come up with specific workable goals, we will not see things get better.

Maybe start by having cops return the gear they received from the military. That would be a goal. Did your local police department get any of it? Make 'em give it back.

If/when you come up with a list of goals and laws that might possibly solve something, get together AS A BLOCK.

Joe Hill: "Don't mourn. Organize." Organizing means coming together AS A BLOCK. Then is when you show up at your local offices TOGETHER. With signatures AS A BLOCK. Vote for the existing office holder or opponent AS A BLOCK FOR THAT ONE ISSUE!

If this is what you are working for, it has to be done that way... ONE ISSUE --- ONE VOTING BLOCK.

"he's just a tatted up black thug. Look at that face. this uppity negro should concentrate on bouncing a basketball and not attack cops or talk politics. I mean, what does he know about it anyway. He's just an athlete."

Who can hear that from the heads of racists everywhere? I can.
