Imagine "All-Lives-Matter" at a civil-rights lunch-counter protest

http://mediamatters.org/video/2016/07/08/sean-hannity-forces-reporter-heckle-black-lives-matter-protesters-right-wing-tropes/211464

"My personal interpretation of Black Lives Matter vs. All Lives Matter. Bob is sitting at the dinner table. Everyone else gets a plate of food except Bob. Bob says 'Bob Deserves Food.' Everyone at the table responds with 'Everyone Deserves Food' and continues eating. All though Everyone Deserves Food is a true statement, it does nothing to actually rectify the fact that BOB HAS NO FOOD!!"

Bob deserves food, not only does that not do anything, it also excludes everybody else from wanting to get involved. Because at the other tables, there's people without food.

But this analogy is horrible and I think we all know that.

Why are people so dumb that they don't get that??! It drives me crazy! Just because of these stupid people, this protest needed to be called Black Lives ALSO Matter! Because these dumb people couldn't figure that out on their own, the word ALSO needed to be added!

I can't understand why some people hear the term "Black Lives Matter" and immediately take offense. It is in no way implying that white lives, or any other lives don't matter.

The whole movement is about the racial inequality that is happening to black lives. Black Lives Matter. That should not be insulting to anyone. I question whether the people who find offense in the term are not seeing or accepting the fact that racial inequality still exists.

But if it helps people understand who otherwise wouldn't, what's the harm?

Once they get that, they will understand why it's called Black Lives Matter.

With no context (i.e out of nowhere), if you say, "Black lives matter." I will pause while waiting for you to complete your thought (during which period I will wonder what is your point?).

get to the lunch counter. They would expect motorists to come to immediate stops to accommodate their protest. One motorist, on the cell phone to comment to his buddies at his local bar about the dumb-asses running across the road, missed paying attention and hit one. Ambulance, called to assist Bob, can't get to him because of the car stoppage on the highway. Bob died.

One less mouth to feed.

(This scenario is based on the recent B.L.B. demonstration where participants ran across an interstate highway, expecting cars to come to a stop from 65 m.p.h.) Video of this was posted on D.U. yesterday. It was not the I-94 demonstration.

Tell the owner of the lunch counter that they don't need their stinking food, they'll make their own, and that the lunch counter should just go out of business.

Participants did not burn the buses. They did not attack the drivers. They did not stop anyone on their way to work --- and guess what?

They won.

The OP was about comparing BLM with the lunch counter protests during the Civil Rights era, and first post was carrying that comparison forward, i.e., a BLM protester wanting to get police out of neighborhoods completely and letting the community self-police would be the equivalent of telling the lunch counter owner they didn't need their food, they would make their own.

When you posted back, I thought you meant that you agreed with the idea of getting the police out of neighborhoods.

My bad!

When all one has to do is look around the diner to see 4 other people without food too....it isn't all about Bob.
