What is the political climate like where you live?

I'm not asking about the state where you live but rather the city/town.

I live in Illinois, but I live in the central part of the state. It's like the deep south around here except the accents. They believe everything is Obama's fault. If I were to have a Obama sticker on my car it would get vandalized. Can't really speak out about it or the company I work for would lose business.

So what's it like where you live?

What would happen if President Obama came to your neighborhood?

The Republican Party doesn't exist as an entity within the city limits. The surrounding Township is more 50/50, leaning towards the GOP, however, no one is overly crazy. I have never seen a Tea Party here. We do have a gay pride festival and peace groups.

And I live in a liberal neighborhood (or enclave, so to speak). But even here you see some teabagger bumper stickers.

We have some Teabaggers but they seem outnumbered and kept in context even buy the rest of the Republicans who tend to either lean libertarian or are establishment/money Republicans.

It is the state as a whole that has a middle ground with DeMint at one pole and Ben Nelson at the other.

I think you're right, in general. But the rural areas of the state (which are most of the state) have a lot of wingnuts.

When the debate is going bad for the conservatives, the personal attacks begin. If you can't discredit the argument, you discredit the person.

It seems that Fox news has the format fine tuned for all to emulate. Did they all graduate from Carl Rove University?

Most speak in general terms and if all else fails, there is always the ultimate answer. God's will.

I am being brave this year and put a dogs against Romney 2012 sticker on my car - waiting to see how long before it is vandalized and/or I get shot at

I dunno if that rules out garage sales but I'm quite sure they wouldn't like democratic party signs.

We live in the NW corner of the county and there is a pretty active democratic party growing here (new suburbs next to the highway - folks work in downtown Houston) and I've actually seen a fair amount of Obama bumper stickers. Also many Ron Paul bumper stickers. Nothing for Romney which is odd.

(none of the presidential candidates ever do) except maybe to stop off at the military base which he has done in the past , but I think he would be well received with maybe a few protestors, especially in my particular neighborhood which tends to lean Democratic.

One of the great things about living here is that we are pretty much ignored during presidential elections -- who wants to travel this far for a measly 3 electoral votes. We get plenty of advertising for statewide offices but hardly any for the presidential. I love that.
