The good news - no one has ever beaten both Williams sisters in a tournament.
If her serve is on today it will be #22

That was a great match. I think Kerber is great...if she could hire Serena to help her with her serve, she would have every skill she needs to win many majors.
Congratulations to the greatest woman tennis champion, ever!

Now, I want a thrashing......

(269,219 posts)The stats that matter to me today - you don't beat both Williams sisters and Serena has never lost after winning the 1st set. How do you beat both of those????
I hope Serena breaks in one of her two next service games.
Venus and Serena are playing the doubles final later today

(51,308 posts)After that first close set, I bet my friend that she'd take the second set 6-3! Woot!
Beautiful match. Good to know we have some wonderful young players in the pipeline.
Serena is legendary, as is Venus.

Additionally you don't ever beat both Williams sisters in a tournament and then Serena never loses after winning the 1st set. It was written I am so happy.

(12,904 posts)Not that I don't like Chris, I just love to hear Venus talk about tennis. She has a wonderful, pleasant voice, and she makes the most profound statements, and observations about the game.
She is an amazing woman.
malaise
(269,219 posts)although I'd love to hear her take during matches sometimes.
My problem with most of the tennis commentators and analysts is their vulgar conflicts of interest. I mean many of them run academies or coach players and there is way too much self promotion.

(12,904 posts)Those people are just so invisible to the game. I just love to hear Venus talk about tennis. She has such passion for the game, has had so much success on the court, and the best part, she has a wonderful speaking voice and is just so eloquent. Much more so than any other player, former or current, male or female. Maybe Cliff Drysdale could match her. They would make a great team.
I am just crazy about her.

(269,219 posts)They both know the history and respect the greats,
First set in the doubles to Venus and Serena

(12,904 posts)The debt that every woman player owes to Venus Williams for her work to bring about equal pay for professional women's tennis. Only Billie Jean King can match her work on every player's behalf.
Venus is truly a tennis legend, who is playing for a Wimbledon championship as we post. That is rare air.
May I just edit to add: Plus, she is so damn cute!

LOL -what I love about them is their ability to learn other languages and use them in public - it's so classy.
Their parents did a fine job in trying circumstances.

(269,219 posts)They have never lost a Major doubles final-unfreakingbelievable. 29 Majors between them in singles.
They are remarkable sisters. How I remember how the tennis world laughed at their father and mother - and both of them. Richard Williams told them they were going to be great. He was right.
