Jeb Bush Excommunicated From Republican Party

Jeb Bush’s remark that Ronald Reagan would be too moderate for today’s Republican Party earned an aggressive rebuke from the gatekeeper of the anti-tax obstinacy that permeates the modern GOP.

“That’s foolish,” Grover Norquist, the architect of the bedrock never-raise-taxes pledge that nearly every Republican has signed, told TPM in an interview. “It’s stup—it’s bizarre.”

“There’s a guy who watched his father throw away his presidency on a 2:1 (ratio of spending cuts to tax increases) promise,” Norquist said of Bush. “And he thinks he’s sophisticated by saying that he’d take a 10:1 promise. He doesn’t understand — he’s just agreed to walk down the same alley his dad did with the same gang. And he thinks he’s smart. You walk down that alley, you don’t come out. You certainly don’t come out with 2:1 or 10:1.”

pardon the pun...he is anticipating a Republican Party meltdown and setting himself up to be the savior in 2016. Norquist is starting to sputter...losing his grip.

That's the first thing I thought of - except I think he's being supported and encouraged by a team of Republicans who see the writing on the wall and want to switch marketing gears. Hence, a gently, seemingly sane member of the Bush Dynasty suddenly "sees the light." I don't buy it; there are no benign members of the BFEE.

He's an extremely intelligent, self-serving, manipulative sociopath. He is a dangerous person that should be considered in the same vein as a starved, cornered wild animal. He will do anything and everything to assure his current survival without realizing that in the end it will assure his own destruction.

than any other member of his insidious family of pillagers and plunderers. His remarks are likely nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to make him more widely pallatable for 2016, and Grover Fuckwad Norquist is merely playing his part in the charade. They are banking on short memory. Reality is that this country cannot CANNOT risk another Bush in the White House. Not ever.

Like Arlen Specter, Jebbie can find a comfortable new home in the centrist wing of the "New Democrat" Party. He wouldn't have to change a thing except his registration.
The Florida DLCers would roll out the Welcome mat and consider it a Political WIN.

There is almost certainly a behind-the-scenes battle for control of the GOP; but, it's far from certain who will be left standing when the smoke clears. A fratricidal battle in the GOP may be our best hope to keep control of the Senate and White House in 2012; however, don't and I repeat, don't count the Tea Party crazies out!

The most likely outcome will be, that the Teahadists will re-emerge by 2016, more likely by 2014, rebranded and with new slogans. The people behind the Tea Party are largely people who were active in the Religious Right in the Reagan years. The whacko wing of the Republican party is not going to relinquish control! We may see a brief period, after the election when the brain-free media announce that "The moderates have retaken control of the Republican party from 'the conservatives.'" The M$Media, of course, refers to the far right as 'moderates' and the absolute loonies as 'conservatives.' I think we all realize that there hasn't been any such thing as a Republican 'moderate' for more than a generation!

The Tea Party is an astroturf, Frankenstein monster created by big money types like the Koch brothers and Machiavellian strategists like Norquist and Karl Rove. If the monster meets his end in a burning windmill, well, back to the lab!

I remember reading some remarks by Helen Keller about a newspaper publisher, shortly after she started talking about political ideas he didn't like:

"At that time the compliments he paid me were so generous that I blush to remember them. But now that I have come out for socialism he reminds me and the public that I am blind and deaf and especially liable to error.”

Still, I expect Jeb is reading the political winds here. Anyone who isn't a complete ideologue would have to realize that the extremist personae the GOP is wearing these days is a big political liability for someone... oh... running for the presidency.
