My god, NPR sucks this morning.

10 minute segment on the new version of the TeeVee show Dallas, and another too-long story about LA winning the Stanley Cup. I had to turn it off. They lead with the Sandusky pedophile story and forest fires I don't personally need to know about.

If I want this type of drivel, I will turn on GMA or the Today show. It looks like they are circling the same drain CNN did a decade or so ago.

I miss getting real news in the morning.

both climate change and the unprecedented scope and magnitude of fires for the future--and how unprepared we are, given we've had to beg resources from Canada to even begin to deal with the enormous fire in Colorado, two in New Mexico and a dozen other smaller ones throughout the West.

And the Sandusky story needs to get the attention it is. Is is important and it exposes the reality of how much will be covered up by monied interests and politics.

Sorry, you are bored. But to say those two stories are not "news"... I think you are sorely mistaken.

What about the fucking Dallas tv show story? they spent more time on that this morning than anything.

Is that news?

that's my point.

You said you miss "real news" in the AM.

First of all NPR has always done some fluff stories like the Dallas TV show. Yes sometimes they can be "off" from what I am interested in but it is nothing new for them.

However, the fires in CO and NM are a very significant, major news story. As is the Sandusky story.

The Dallas story brought me to a boiling point after already simmering for a couple of days about them leading almost exclusively with the fire and the pedophile (at least when I was listening) to the exclusion of a lot of other important news for the last couple of days.

By including the "lead issue" in the same OP as my complaint about the 10 minute advertisement for the new Dallas show, and citing those two specific examples as evidence, I inadvertently implied that they were also non-news. That was not my intention. I am just of the opinion that they are not worthy of being the exclusive lead stories for several consecutive days. They may also have mentioned the Spain bailout and how that helped the stock market, at least until it didn't. Someone in another thread pointed out to me that the fire story was important in the context of climate change, and I totally agree, but I don't recall them mentioning climate change in any of their stories about the fire. Perhaps they did after I shut it off.

A quick browse through LBN will show that there is a lot of other very important stuff happening in the world, but most of it is completely ignored while we hear over and over about the pedophile.

I have listened to NPR news since the early 80s and have watched with sadness as it has descended over the last 10 years into being 5lbs of substance in a 50lb bag like much of the rest of the MSM.

I am getting increasingly frustrated by my inability of getting live, hard news in the morning. I used to be able to get it from NPR, but it seems to me to be increasingly more diluted. That said, I am not advocating the de-funding and annihilation of NPR; I merely said I thought they sucked this morning. Given the lack of available live alternatives, I predict I will still have it turned on again tomorrow morning.

from the ME, Africa, Europe and US headlines, nothing about Dallas Tee Vee though. Real news, as it is happening, the bailouts in Spain, eg also covered and hardly any commercials. I never watch the MSM anymore, after watching foreign news media, I can't stand the infotainment we call news here. Especially the morning fluff as I remember it.

Save yourself the aggravation like I did--although you would still have heard about the horrible fires, especially since they killed a woman, the Stanley Cup & Sandusky.

I sure would like to find something to listen to in the morning that wasn't 80% fluff a/o commercials.

Now the Redwings winning the Stanley Cup on the other hand would have been a lead story!

network tee vee and radio, including the corporate sponsored psuedo-public sucks. If you are really lucky there might be a good community radio station in your area, but they don't often have the budget for decent news - try pacifica, I suppose.
