Since Rush hate firefighters and police and probably first responders. If he has a heart attack I would not intervene.

(154,021 posts)who took care of him in Hawaii understood this pesky ethics thing.
Look, we might even hate this a-hole, but doing what you are asking is lowering yourself to their level...
Fortunately the crew in Hawaii did their job, as well as the hospital staff, irony of ironies, the same one where one Barack Obama was born a few years ago.

(3,334 posts)Agreed. Not going to lower myself to his level. No sense of behaving as he does, insensitive and belligerent.

(52 posts)why the right wing has been so successful pushing their war on the American people. People who are 'too nice' to stoop to their level are the same ones walked over by them every day. I guess you never heard the phrase about 'fighting fire with fire'??

(21,977 posts)Limpballs hates firefighters?
Fine. If he's burning up on the side of the road, I wouldn't piss on him to put out the fire.
And by the way, there's a philosophical basis for this, called "situation ethics" (read Joseph Fletcher)--doing the most good for the most people. It's one reason why a group of respected theologians and pastors advocated the assasination of Adolph Hitler back in the day ...
Draw your own conclusions. But I wouldn't lift a finger to help Limpballs.

(154,021 posts)NOT to give medical attention to somebody in medical need because well, that is what you consider ethical?
This has nothing to do with being nice, but with medico-legal ethics.
You understand, NOT REALLY, the difference, right?

(15,331 posts)if I came upon Rush, and he were on fire, I wouldn't even piss on him.

(154,021 posts)If I came upon Rush and he was in need of medical aid, I would render such aid... that is what you do... as an ETHICAL thing.
On the bright side, Rush has expressed the same exact lack of ethics you have... this is not a happy place as a nation.
Next I am going to be accused of defending Rush, as I was yesterday of defending conservatives for refusing to go down to that level of actual hate and OTHER ism, thanks for the prime example by the way... I will save you the defending of Rush, given I have, as a medic, taken care of people in dire medical straits that actually have been physically responsible for hundreds, if not thousands of deaths... as in for real. It was never a question whether to render that medical aid. It was, that is what ethical people do.
Now what the legal system did with them, that is what the legal system would do... and another matter.

(5,105 posts)If we lower ourselves to their sick, anti-"christian" standards, we are no better than them.
Trust me, I've been disgusted a time or two when I helped a rabid hate-filled individual, in ways small and medium, but my instincts won't let me contribute to another person's pain and misery.
"Oh!" you may think, "you must be a Christian!"
Ha, no, no, no thank you. I was raised as one but saw the looks of hatred on their faces if they saw anyone who didn't look, think, or "bleeeeve" just like them.
Guess what led me away from religion?
Actually sitting down and reading the bible, and all the violence, bigotry, hatred, and horror it contains. And a "god" that has human emotions like jealousy, hate, and holding a grudge?
That ain't no "higher being," sister.

(170 posts)are being taught that George Washington was a terrorist....look it up....I don't hate individual police, but for the most part they are corrupt, well because the politicians, courts, and DA's that support them are too....if we actually enforced the law in America and actually had equality and justice for all, we would not need all these police
I would rather see 1/2 the police force cut, and directly move those funds to schools, teachers, after school programs, jobs programs, less prisons... the list goes on and on
we imprison way too many in America today, the cause, draconian laws that target poor people enforced by police.

(8,556 posts)OP argued that Rush doesn't deserve assistance from police/fiire/paramedics because he has talked smack about public employees.
So should somebody who has talked bad about police get their assistance? That's the question.
But while we're at it:

(52 posts)a false equivalency. A person who hates cops may not necessarily do anything that harms cops. It's merely a viewpoint. The right wing fanatics have practically destroyed our economy with their lockstep mode of opposition. How would you deal with them - try to reason with them - hug them - toss them a flower???
Spitfire of ATJ
(32,723 posts)because he's so universally reviled by the general public it's easier to get people to listen to an alternative viewpoint.
Plus, you have the cowardice of Republicans to refute his comments. If any of them even HINT that they disagree with him they go on his show to kiss his,....er,....ring....
Question: How many actual proud Dittoheads are still around? They don't get invited to the next party. And they certainly aren't breeding.

(4,558 posts)If I was a firefighter, and I knew that prick was in the house burning.. I'd still do my job to save him.
But since I'm not, if I saw him burning in the street, and I had a fire extinguisher in hand.... I'd let him burn, and I'd feel no shame in doing so.
If I was a paramedic, or ER staff, and he was my patient.. I'd do my job ethically.
But since I'm not, if I saw him choking in the restaurant I'd watch him drop in amusement, and go back to my meal without batting an eyelash.
There are few people I'd take this position on, but he's in the top range of that list.
Professionals have to be relied on to be professionals regardless of personal opinions held about the people they are supposed to be saving. Really, could you imagine finding out that a paramedic refused to do CPR on our Rachel Maddow, or a firefighter refused to put out the fire on her house while she was in it?
