The 'shoot first and resolve doubts later' attitude has me concerned.

I'm hearing impaired in both ears. I worry that there could come a time when an anxious police officer will stop me and things will escalate simply because I am not responding to his questions or commands soon enough because I don't understand what they are saying. I think the motto "to serve and protect" went out the window long ago. So I don't expect to be treated with kindness and understanding even though I am 72 yo. I carry a printed copy of my latest hearing test in my visor. I just hope I would be allowed to verrry slowly reach for it and that it might help to defuse the situation.

I am feeling much more pessimistic and heartbroken today especially after reading about the Minnesota shooting. This is unacceptable. The tendency of our law enforcement to kill black people on sight must be fixed.

Then you've got a real good reason to be concerned. If you're white then not as MUCH of a reason, but there's still a reason to be concerned. Cops are being trained to be intimidators of the public. It was never really about "serve and protect" the people as much as it was "serve and protect" property and the ones who own that property, but since more and more people are figuring that out, the intimidation is being racheted up in order to intimidate you into not raising a stink about it.

I dread every interaction with cops and I'm an old white guy.

Their orders are completely different for you...de-escalate and disarm peacefully.

Color plays the largest part at this point in time, but it's not the only factor. Cops have to be able to intimidate all races and colors with the threat of judicial murder.

The minute you pull over to the curb, pull the hearing test out of your visor, put it on the dash and wait for the officer. You might want to also have a sign I AM HEARING IMPAIRED that you can show the officer.

There may be nothing to worry about, but these suggestions may make you feel more relaxed.

I also considered putting both hands out the window until the officer
approached the car so he wouldn't wonder why I was fidgeting around.
