Norquist Lashes Back At Jeb Bush On Reagan, Taxes

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/06/grover-norquist-jeb-bush-ronald-reagan-taxes.php?ref=fpa

Jeb Bush’s remark that Ronald Reagan would be too moderate for today’s Republican Party earned an aggressive rebuke from the gatekeeper of the anti-tax orthodoxy that permeates the modern GOP.

“That’s foolish,” Grover Norquist, the architect of the bedrock never-raise-taxes pledge that nearly every Republican has signed, told TPM in an interview. “It’s stup—it’s bizarre.”

“There’s a guy who watched his father throw away his presidency on a 2:1 [ratio of spending cuts to tax increases] promise,” Norquist said of Bush. “And he thinks he’s sophisticated by saying that he’d take a 10:1 promise. He doesn’t understand — he’s just agreed to walk down the same alley his dad did with the same gang. And he thinks he’s smart. You walk down that alley, you don’t come out. You certainly don’t come out with 2:1 or 10:1.”

Bush told reporters at Bloomberg LP’s New York headquarters that “(b)ack to my dad’s time and Ronald Reagan’s time — they got a lot of stuff done with a lot of bipartisan support.” Reagan “would be criticized for doing the things that he did,” the former Florida governor said, blaming both sides for partisan gridlock.

If people do no think that there is a fight for the control of the Republican Party between the Far Right and the Loony Right, they are dead wrong.

I see this as the acknowledgement that Romney will lose, and that the pandering to the Loony Right in order to get elected is a losing proposition for them.

I hope they keep on the same path.

The Teabagger Loony Right will wail that the reason they lost 2012 was because Mittens was too moderate for them, and they'll need to run an even further Right candidate in '16 in order to win.

Jebbie needs to run as a Moderate; it is his only path to get elected.

He's fucked, and he knows it.

He is not doing this for nothing. I also wonder if those making big donations to Scott walker, etc if they would only get tax breaks if they contributed to the national debt we just might get the debt down. They don't want to pay taxes but will buy anyone.

You have to hand it to Jeb, one of the few who has taken a stand. There needs to be many other leaders who starts telling the truth also

. . . . would probably be the most funny thing I could ever witness.

I could picture this little bridge troll running, pointing and wagging his stubby litttle man-doll fingers, tripping and falling flat on his bearded mug and still sputtering and lisping away about George HW Bush and his ratios.

And then he gets sprayed with Seltzer. And hit with a pie. And kicked in the ass by a clown with big shoes to a Carl Stalling soundtrack.

Why joo angry, you ant-man-bee troll bastard? Yard Gnome swindler pigshit douchelord?

than being made irrelevant. People only have the power that others cede to them. That goes for Presidents too. The RW is doing its best to make President Obama irrelevant by being against everything he attempts to do...even when it's exactly what they want him to do. You topple nations my making leaders irrelevant and leading their people to disrespect their own governments. We have done this in so many places in the world, the one of the few places left is our own country. Now the RW is doing it to the US and themselves.

the little dweeb needs to find a hole and crawl into it. The Rs will continue to devour one another. The Democrats have their own issues of true progressives versus moderates but the battles are not so intense nor are the overall objectives different.

But for the pukes the stakes couldn't be higher. For the T-baggers, elimination of the government, total anarchy where only the 2nd amendment counts. No socialized medicine unless it it Medicare and keep your hands off MY social security.

The somewhat sane branch of the repukes recognize this will not work. They want to pull back more toward the center but are being weighted down by the nut cases on the right.

It should be a good show.
