(40,168 posts)Midway through the article, it gives the exact date of the birth of ISIS - 4/11/2003 - half a million armed, bored fighters looking for something to do.
malaise
(269,157 posts)Not sure they were bored - more like their version of the resistance movement. As we both know and say there are always more than two sides to war - let alone an illegal one.

malaise
(269,157 posts)but more than a few of us knew what would happen after the illegal invasion and occupation.
When we were bombing up their malls, their universities, and their entire fugging country, what the fugg did we expect - garlands of flowers - oh yes Rumsfeld and Cheney expected that.

It took less than a week and the first IED directed at American forces went off. Bremmer STILL thinks the de-Baathifacation of Iraqi government was the best decision he made as Provincial Governer.
Because he's an Idiot.

(29,414 posts)We had an opportunity to take out Zarqawi. But, as that was during the lead-up to the Iraq war, well, we know what their priorities were.
And I'm with you on this

(29,414 posts)People often recommend Vice to me, but Frontline is so much better and I recommend Frontline back to them. Vice is like Frontline for people with short attention spans. Just not enough information can be crammed into 10-12 minutes before the next commercial break.

(54,770 posts)when he invaded and occupied Iraq. I believe it. We could have given every Iraqi their per capita income for years with what the war cost us, and probably gotten a lot better results.
