Uh oh

Last night we watched the end of a soccer match between Germany and Italy in a Mexican restaurant. Today, we just had lunch at a Japanese steakhouse.

We are either doing this 4th of July weekend thing really wrong or really right.

I just realize we triangulated on the Axis Powers. I'm going to go sing a Lee Greenwood song as penance.

I totally get the feelings you're feeling. But there AIN'T A CHANCE I'll subject myself to ANY Lee Greenwood, nationalistic bullshit!

Dueling the first Gulf war they starting playing that song after last formation and Taps. This went on for at least 6 months.

At first no one knew if it was part of the actual procedure or not. Some would stay at attention, some went to parade rest. Finally I asked a NCO "Do we have to stand here and listen to this crap?" The answer was No. It took a while for others to ask this question because we were always at the front of the chow line or the only ones on the bus/taxi stand.

Forget what most of the world calls football, or what the USA calls football.

THIS! IS! FOOTBALL! (AKA Footy) OZ style!

1. The ball is always in play, unless it goes out of bounds upon which it is quickly thrown back into play.

2. No shoulder pads or other encumberances. Just run your ass off and learn to kick the ball accurately.

3. Catching a kicked ball gives you a free kick; you cannot be tackled.

4. No passing the ball. You can handball it, though. It's all about the kick.

5. Australia has been playing this game since the 1860's.

Both European and American football are very, very dull in comparison.

MHz Worldview stopped covering sports, including Footy.

My roof antenna rotor went out, so I cannot even get the PBS channel that broadcasts MHz Worldview any longer.

There is no Internet or cable TV where I live. Except cell network and dial up.

Announcers call after the fourth goal.

I was impressed with the hustle and speed of play by Iceland but they are just outclassed today or their run ran out.

Once lived in a townhouse that had been rented by Indians who ran a Dunkin Donuts. They left an endless supply of DD Napkins and trash bags. The downside was that from time to time we'd find a pocket of curry smell in a closet or a kitchen cabinet.

From:
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me

To
And I won't forget those who died
Who gave that right to me

"The men" is phrased with "the" as a pickup note with "men" on the downbeat. Skip the pickup note and substitute "those" for "men" on the downbeat.

Oh screw it; just sing a better song.

paying honor to their current and past indigenous players, staff and fans. Each of the 18 teams have a special indigenous design on their guernseys.
Next round, next week, will be dedicated to the 'multi-cultural' players, staff and fans. Last year they had special announcers doing commentary in each of the origin languages represented.
