DARN! The movie 1776 won't appear til 1 a.m. TUESDAY!

(TCM, for fans.) Adaptation of the Broadway Tony-winning musical celebrates the founding fathers' midwifery of the Declaration of Independence, the document that would give birth to a nation.

Played in the pit orchestra for a college production of it years ago. Fabulous music and message, and mostly historically accurate.
The Nixon administration demanded that the song "Cool Considerate Men" be cut from the film release in 1972. It's a jibe at the conservatives of the day and he of course took it personally. The number was put back in the film later and it's there in the one shown on TV.
Both Dickinson College and Wilson College in PA were named for Declaration signers who had prominent roles in the show.

Saw it at Ford's Theater (in DC) a few years ago. The high school students in the audience seemed to appreciate it.

Only 10 years away from the 250th.

So what do we call a 250th anniversary? I prefer sestercentennial, the Latin prefix "sester" means 2 and one half.

i.e., Pacific Daylight Time. TCM announces it schedules as if everyone is on East Coast time.

Which means the shows I find interesting - like the Sunday silent movies - are on at a reasonable time here.

They've decided to go for the young crowd by playing movies because they're in color. There's also a sick fascination with film noir and other guy flicks. Gone are the three hanky weepers and movies with witty repartee from the 30s that were so great to watch. Gunfights and car chases, that's what the present programmer loves, along with reliving his youth.

I'm probably going to dump the dish and get an online subscription after the election. TCM is what kept the money rolling in to Direct and it's not worth watching now.
