6. Justices may read their opinions from the bench if they wish

In really major major decisions this happens a lot.

I expect every justice except for Thomas will write an opinion.

Either way they drop the full decision on the website.

7. SCOTUSblog.com is the best place to watch the court.

It's not the official Supreme Court website -- that's http://www.supremecourt.gov/ . But it's a really great blog that keeps up with the Court and live blogs the release of opinions. This almost always happens on a Monday, so the next scheduled day for orders and opinions is the 18th.

As it turns out, Friday the 15th is the last day dissents can be passed between the justices for approval. June 1st was the last day for the majority opinion. So the 18th is actually the best day to expect this decision. And the 25th is the last day for decisions to be announced this term. If it doesn't happen in two weeks, it's going to be reargued, and nobody is expecting that. All hints from the justices who have talked about it is that the decision has been made. It's just down to the writing.

8. I think it's a good question...

I've wondered the same too. I was hoping they'd announce a decision was forthcoming, instead of just announcing it. I don't want anyone to tell me what the decision is, I want to hear it on my own. So, I was hoping they'd say 'an announcement is expected at any moment now...' similar to a courtroom, where they call everyone back to the court for the decision.

I know during the Bush-Gore fiasco, it came very quickly and was left to the reporters reading the written statement and trying to figure out exactly what it meant. If I recall, from the movie Recount, the statement was faxed to both Bush & Gore's legal teams at the same moment it was released to the media, so, I guess it will all be released in one fell swoop just like that.

But who knows.

Who while reading for the first time are trying to explain, adding their spin of course.

I hope they will read the decision from the bench. To me this adds ownership to the decision.
