Woman who escaped tormentor ran into street and store naked and no one would help her

A woman who ran naked into the street screaming for help in Lawrence, Massachusetts said no one would come to her aid at first, MassLive.com reported.

The woman accused her boyfriend of tying her up and raping her, but she waited for him to fall asleep before escaping. She ran naked into the street with her hands still bound, screaming for help and that someone was trying to kill her. But at first, no one stepped up to help.

She ran into a store and was told to leave, MassLive reports.

Eventually a witness called 911.

Police found the woman sitting on a stoop and crying, wrapped in a sweater someone gave her. She was dirty and barefoot, with marks where her legs and wrists were bound.

Her boyfriend, Keyvin “Ghetto” Gil, had threatened her with a gun, which he then used to sexually assault her, MassLive reports. He raped her and told her he would give her a chance to say goodbye to her twin daughters before he killed her. He also burned her with lit cigarettes, took a single bullet out of his gun and spun the chamber to taunt her.

What a sick sad world.

Despite the trauma, I'm soooo glad she survived. We need more therapists and such, and more people who actually care about other people.... but we can't bring back the dead, and if she hadn't gotten away.... she might have been one of them. Pretty quickly if he was escalating that bad.

Got mugged the very first week I was there. Learned real fast not to walk around my area at night alone. I'm betting this was somewhere downtown.

I feel for her.

4. Why would a store owner tell her to leave instead of calling 911 and HELPING HER?!?!

I hope he's being held with no bond or bail option. Sick bastard will likely come after her again if he's out.

Quite possibly the worst city in America. Born and raised there. I escaped in 1980 and see that people there haven't changed a bit. Terrible story.

People have a tendency to ask "Is this a scam?" first in that city.

Even if one calls 911 immediately, will the cops get there before the angry man coming after her?

Can't explain why the person in a store would shoo her out, but everything else seems to line up with the bystander effect. Basically, people in a crowded area assume someone else will help.

It's beyond my imagination that she was left to sit on a stoop when the guy could have discovered her and shot her. What utter cowards those people were. People with courage are afraid like anyone else--but they act anyway.
