Some still in critical.
I feel for their families. They are wondering if the person they care for will live or die due to this tragedy.
Please don't forget about them.

(206,009 posts)It does sound like the news is getting back to election-news-as-usual starting today. But I don't think we're about to forget this anytime soon. It's still the biggest news story and ordinary people everywhere are feeling affected by this. The newspaper has covered all kinds of vigils in local towns (and I'm in NE NY) to honor the victims.
The other night, we were going through the TV channels and couldn't help noticing that Chiller, of all channels, had a permanent logo up on its screen in remembrance of Orlando. Even Chiller!

If they ever want to.
This was so absolutely soul-robbing.

(206,009 posts)I've also thought about those who were there, and only witnessed this unimaginable horror. Even they will never be the same... and will need a lot of help.

(39,961 posts)for them and their families, but shouldn't we do something? It's horrible that so many died, but let's not forget those and their loved ones laying there on a hospital bed.
I want to do something, surely there is a small kindness we can do to say you aren't alone.

(206,009 posts)There are shrines where people are leaving flowers and other tributes, but I'm sure cards and messages of encouragement for those being treated would be welcome too. And there is a very successful fund set up to help them and their families, as well...
This looks like the right link. It's raised over $4 million already

(39,961 posts)So much attention on those that perished, and rightfully so, but we have to help those that were decimated but not dead.
And might I say, I wish to all under the sun, moon and stars that I don't have to ask how to help victims of mass shootings?

(206,009 posts)After each horrific shooting, you have to think it has to be the last. The vast majority of Americans, of either party, support gun control. Why so many in this country continue to elect representatives who vote against their interests is baffling to me.

(83,898 posts)Also, would have to find the links, companies donated prosthetics to the survivors as well. At least one was very young and will need to have a new ones as she grows.
There is indeed help out there.

This year was the first year for Boston Bombing victims to run again. Three years later...
My heart goes out to them all.
They will dance again.

I don't particularly know what they might need. It's not always my forte.
Maybe help those in the hospital with toiletries or cards?
I don't know, but I think that as a DU community we could help those whose lives were shattered and still hoping they make it.

We all know natural disasters will happen - but one person shooting 103 souls isn't in any way natural

Amazing how much lighter the place feels and it kept me busy. In a subconscious way I guess I was trying to wash away this horrific act.
Today I'm going to reorganize the wardrobe. It will keep me busy for a few hours.

I guess I just got side-tracked wondering how I would feel if my loved one was in ICU, but not dead.
I don't mean to be gruesome. It's just such a huge belching poison of aftermath for them and their friends and family

(16,190 posts)One dumbass is allowed to do so much damage, and the only people who pay for it are the victims and their families (and I suppose THEIR insurance companies).
The special treatment for this protected class of people who insist on having the right to make this crap freely available to just about anyone is revolting.
If I want to fly a plane, drive a car or sell hot dogs out of a food cart, I need a license and insurance to pay for damages that might be done to other people because of my activities. The damage done by guns in the wrong hands is too big to extract as a penalty from the culprit (who is usually dead anyway).
