It is a sad commentary but it is true.
They are willing to go to any extreme to fight the terrorists in Syria and Iraq. They are willing to send others to die to prevent terrorist acts overseas.
But, they sit on their hands when it comes to fighting terrorism at home. They refuse to fight the homegrown terrorists because it might offend their friends in the NRA. They could very easily stop anyone on the "no fly" list from purchasing guns so easily. They could have a three-week waiting period if they wanted. They could ban assault weapons altogether if they wanted.
But they refuse to do anything about the terrorism in our own country. They are traitors to the security of the American people.
It truly makes no sense to fight terrorism abroad and to do nothing in our own country. But that is the political strategy of the Republican Party.

(7,299 posts)The only thing the President asked of them 18 months ago was to pass a Use of Force resolution so that Republicans would make a statement sharing in the effort. Turns out, since Bush and Cheney screwed them so bad for their Iraq vote, those brave Republicans won't even risk a vote of their war convictions. What have they done to fight terrorism overseas ?

(111,110 posts)McCain and Graham wanted to arm the "rebels" fighting Assad in Syria - they found about a half-dozen willing to take their money. They talk about sending more "ground troops" into Iraq and expelling ISIS. But, it is true, they are a bunch of blowhards.
